I'm an American moving to Australia for a year. What can I expect?

The diving is excellent in many places on the reef. One of our main reef and marine research stations is on Heron Island (off the coast at Bundaberg) which is a coral cay at the southern end of the reef and the diving is great there (there's accomodation on the island). Lady Elliot Island is also around there and is also great. As you head north, you'll find many great dive sites and of course, the dive boat operators know where all the best spots are.
